From Saturday October 12th until Sunday November 3rd, Roker Park will be transformed into a ‘Wonderland Experience’ every evening between 5pm and 9pm.
The park will feature Alice in Wonderland themed sculptures which are visible during the day time. However as dusk moves in, the park will magically come alive, featuring colourful characters and atmospheric lighting.
To complement the lighting of the park a programme of family friendly entertainment will also be available at weekends.
There will be the chance to meet and greet some of the park’s characters on Saturdays and storytelling will be available on Sundays in The Bandstand.
From Saturday 19th October tea cup and saucer lantern making will also be available in the Bowling Club between 5pm and 9pm on weekends.
Chris Alexander, Chief Operating Officer of Sunderland Live, who are delivering the event on behalf of Sunderland City Council said: “Last year’s programme of entertainment at Roker Park Lights was a huge success and we were obviously keen to repeat this.
“Instead of focussing our attention on a launch night, this year we decided to offer an enhanced programme of family friendly entertainment in keeping with the theme of the event.”
As well as regular weekend entertainment, on the final evening of Roker Park Lights, children are invited to return to collect their tea cup and saucer lanterns and help illuminate the park for a floating mad hatter’s tea party on the pond.
As it’s the final weekend there will be a fantastic souvenir guide available to purchase at the park for £1 which allows children to enter a fabulous Cheshire Cat trail competition.
